Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has called on Kenyans to participate peacefully and responsibly in next year’s General Election as she intensifies grassroots engagements across the county.
Muhanda, who is seeking to succeed Governor Fernandes Barasa, said elections should unite residents around their shared aspirations rather than become a source of division and conflict.
Speaking during a Meet-the-People tour in Shiongo, Khwisero Constituency, on Tuesday, Muhanda urged eligible Kenyans to register as voters and exercise their constitutional right to choose leaders of their preference.
She said voting gives ordinary citizens an opportunity to influence the direction of the country and determine the leadership they want.
“Nothing is more powerful in a democracy than the voice of the people,” she said.
Muhanda described every vote as a statement of hope, responsibility and belief in the future Kenyans want to build together. She urged residents to participate actively and peacefully throughout the electoral process.
She said political competition should not come at the expense of peace, national unity and respect for democratic institutions.
The Woman Representative said communities could only unlock greater opportunities when they remained united and focused on development despite their political differences.
“The choices we make at the ballot determine the direction of our nation,” she said.
Muhanda’s remarks came amid increased political activities across the country, with leaders and aspiring politicians stepping up grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 General Election.
She urged Kenyans to protect the democratic space and ensure political differences did not interfere with peaceful coexistence.
Muhanda further encouraged residents to view elections as an opportunity to shape the country’s future while respecting the right of other citizens to make different political choices.
