The Murang’a County Government has strongly condemned recent violence witnessed in Kakuzi/Mitumbiri Ward that left several people injured and two dead.
The county’s remarks come as residents of the ward located in Murang’a South Sub County grapple with grief and uncertainty following the latest outbreak of violence, which is linked to long-standing land disputes in the area.
The chaos erupted after two people were killed in mysterious ways allegedly by security guards of two horticultural companies operating within the ward.
In a public notice issued by the county government, Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s administration expressed deep concern over the disturbances, describing the acts as tragic and unacceptable.
“We have noted with deep concern the recent events in Kakuzi/Mitumbiri Ward that have resulted in disturbances and the tragic loss of lives. We strongly condemn these acts,” read part of the notice.
The devolved unit further stated that it will render necessary support to the bereaved families calling on the county security committee to investigate the incidents.
The county administration emphasized that it values peace, unity, and love among all residents, saying these values are the foundation for sustainable economic growth and social harmony.
To address long-term stability and shared prosperity, the county revealed it is investing in a number of transformative projects within the ward.
The projects include the establishment of an Industrial Park, construction of a modern hospital, creation of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ), and new housing developments.
“These initiatives will create jobs, improve livelihoods, and ensure that our people live in a sustainable way,” outlined the notice.
The county government further called for collaboration among leaders, community members, and all stakeholders to work together towards building a thriving and harmonious community in the county.
The Kang’ata’s administration urged for calm and dialogue as the local leadership and the community seeks healing and justice.
