The Popular Kikuyu pop musician, John De Mathew died of chest complications after his ribs sliced open his lungs as a result of the impact of the fatal Sunday accident.
One of his leg was fractured but his head was not affected in any way, autopsy results have revealed.
De Mathew died after the vehicle he was driving hit a stationary lorry along the Thika-Kenol Highway, opposite Blue Post Hotel.
He was coming from a fundraiser at Metro bar in Thika town in support of fellow musician’s Peter Kigia’s ailing child.
Family spokesman, Muheria Kariuki who is also the former Thika County Council Chairman said funeral arrangements were ongoing.
He dismissed media reports that the deceased was drunk during the incident, stating that the pop star had not been taking alcohol for the last two weeks.
Kariuki said they were with the fallen musician the whole day and at no time did he ask for beer. He urged the media to be responsible in their reporting.
Speaking at the Kenyatta University Funeral home where they had gone to witness the autopsy, the spokesman termed the media reports as malicious, baseless and sheer propaganda.
“In fact, De Mathew had not been drinking for a fortnight,” he reiterated.
Meanwhile, the deceased two wives, Sarafina Wairimu and Caroline Waithira said they were united and fully involved in preparations of giving their departed husband a befitting send off.
De Mathew is survived by three children. He will be buried on Saturday in Gathiruini, Mukurwe area, Gatanga Sub County in Murang’a County.
Meanwhile, There are high possibilities that De Mathew, just like the late musician, Joseph Kamaru will be accorded a state burial.
