Narok County Government has realized over Sh5 billion in revenues in 2025 from the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
The County attributed the good performance in revenue collection to the major infrastructure improvement within the reserve which includes the upgrading of over 200 Km of road network.
This has helped enhance accessibility and improved the safari experience in the reserve and on the other hand, strengthened the reserve’s contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
In a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Governor, Tamalinye Koech during the Jamhuri Day fete that was held at Nkorkorri primary school in Narok West sub-county, governor Patrick Ole Ntutu said the county government plans to invest the money in social programs that benefit livelihoods adding that conducting routine maintenance to the roads will help boost the revenues in the tourism sector.
The Deputy Governor commended residents for promoting social harmony which saw incidents of Gender Based Violence (GBV) declining urging them to remain steadfast in the fight against the vice.
Narok County Commissioner (CC), Kipkech Lotiatia revealed that early this month, a section of Maa elders underwent GBV sensitization training at Suswa in a bid to address retrogressive cultures that propagate the vice.
He warned against those propagating the vice saying that they will face the law, reiterating the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals in the society.
