National and County governments urged to set aside funds to mitigate climate change effects

There is need for the National and County governments to set aside funds in their budgets to mitigate against the effects of climate change.
Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago said the country has no other option apart from funding climate change mitigating activities as per the climate change Act 2016.
Speaking during a Finance monitoring, evaluation and reporting for county climate change units workshop for chief officers for water drawn from the 47 counties held in Eldoret on Friday, the county chief proposed that the country should also make it a requirement for every investor, and every profit making company to put 2% of its profits on climate change mitigating activities.
The Act was introduced to provide for regulatory framework for enhanced response to climate change and to provide mechanism and measures to achieve low carbon climate development.
Kenya’s mitigation contribution is to abate its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
