Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has urged the national government to effectively address challenges facing teachers.
Speaking in Kitale town Saturday, Amisi called for dialogue among education stakeholders to minimize future strikes, which end up affecting learning.
The MP was speaking while distributing Cheques to more than 1500 needy students from Saboti Constituency through the Caleb Amisi kitty that is aimed at helping needy students continue with their education.
The Kitty supplements both the county and national government bursaries that target bright and needy students.
More than Sh10million has been distributed to students from the constituency, studying in different institutions including secondary schools, technical colleges and universities.
The MP said he is seeking support from partners and well -wishers to increase the number of beneficiaries.
According to the MP, Saboti constituency has a huge number of people living in slums and that most parents and guardians cannot afford to pay fees for their children.
He said the kitty which was started 2 years ago has attracted over 17, 000 applicants from the constituency.
He also noted that he is holding talks with some foreign ambassadors to look for scholarship that would allow some of his constituents to study abroad, while emphasizing the need to import skills from the advanced technologies to help develop Kenya.
