NGO involves in Infrastructural Development

Mt. Kilimanjaro Child Development Program, a Non-Governmental Organization has so far reached out to 31 learning institutions with a school feeding program in Loitoktok Sub County.

Mt. Kilimanjaro Child Development Program Manager Angela Lapasi said the organization has reached out to 22 primary schools and 9 Early Child Development facilities within four wards in Loitoktok.

While speaking to KNA in Loitoktok, Lapasi said that the initiative is targeting needy schools which have been affected by the prevailing drought.

The Program Manager further noted that the organization has also assisted learning institutions with infrastructural development and renovations.

She particularly observed that since 2019 the organization has been renovating classrooms, dormitories, as well as establishing modern ablution blocks in schools.

Lapasi pointed out that so far, the organization has built sanitation blocks to over 16 primary schools and five ECD centres.

Apart from establishing infrastructures, Lapasi said they have also supplied over 1, 200 desks to 21 primary schools and 9 ECD centres.

In conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Kajiado County Government, the organization has been organizing annual training for ECD teachers and provision of ECD playing materials.

Lapasi also noted that the organization has been organizing youth football tournaments through which they are able to reach them and mentor them.

She additionally pointed out that they invite mentors and leaders during the tournaments who speak to the youths on life skills.

Apart from reaching out to schools and youths she noted they fight against retrogressive cultural practices and address water scarcity in affected areas and institutions.

She said all their services are through close coordination with departments of interior, children education among many other players.
