Detectives in Rachuonyo south sub county have recovered a homemade gun used during violent robbery of Oyugis town businessman in Obisa village near Oyugis town.
Police believe the gun was dropped accidentally by robbers as they were fleeing the scene after robbing the businessman of his vehicle and other valuables On Thursday night.
48-year-old entrepreneur Edwin Onyango Okong’o was ambushed, beaten, and robbed of his light grey Toyota Passo (KCT 025V) and a Samsung phone right outside his Obisa village home.

, 2026, at around 7:00 AM, the sub-county Criminal Investigation officer (SCCIO) for Rachuonyo south led a specialized team back to the crime scene where upon a meticulous sweep of the area, detectives discovered a functional, homemade gun capable of firing live ammunition.
He said the weapon was found a few meters from the victim’s perimeter fence.
“Investigators believe that the weapon fell from the suspects during their violent struggle with Okong’o,” the police commander said.
He said the gun has been safely preserved by forensic experts and is being dispatched to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters in Nairobi for ballistic analysis to trace its origin and link it to other crimes.
Meanwhile, Edwin Okong’o remains in stable condition at Matata Hospital, and is recuperating from head, chin, and hand injuries sustained during the assault.

Onyango told police that at around 8.06 PM as he drove to his entrance and wait for the gate to be opened two unidentified men on foot emerged from the darkness.
He said one of the men brandished a pistol commanding him to step out of his vehicle and hand over all his money and valuables.
“I refused to their demands,” Mr. Okong’o said adding one of the robbers immediately fired a live round of ammunition into the air as they started to bludgeon him repeatedly with a blunt object something that left him with severe head injuries.
They jumped into his light grey Toyota Passo, registration number KCT 025V, snatched his Samsung mobile phone, leaving him in pain on the ground and sped off into the night.
