The Principal Secretary, State Department for Tourism, Prof. Julius Bitok, has urged youth to market Kenya online by venturing into content creation.
He told the youth to market the country’s beautiful sceneries in order to support the current drive by the government targeting 5 million tourists annually from the current 2.5 million.
He was speaking in Eldoret during the disbursement of the second tranche of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Business Capital programme for Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties.
“We have over 2.5 million tourists who visit our country annually and our target as the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) is 5 million tourists. This number can be attained through your help as youths through marketing of our beautiful Kenyan sceneries on the social media platforms for people all over the world to consume and have a great urge to tour our country,” he noted.
PS Bitok urged the youths to utilize the NYOTA support grant to purchase equipment like smartphones and others and use them in meaningful ways that will help them generate income and make a living out of it.
He advised the youths to use their phones to create content, which includes short video clips, documentaries and even photographs that they update on their social media platforms, which include TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
He hinted that the Kenya Tourism Board is implementing a policy of providing job opportunities to the best content creators in the field of tourism and wildlife production.
“As youths you should use your smartphones for the right and meaningful purposes instead of misusing them; use them to create short clips and post them on social media platforms for the world to see how Kenya is rich with beautiful scenery and make the tourists tour in large numbers,” added theBitok.
