PS urges parents to help transition children to tertiary education

Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has called on parents to actively support their children in transitioning to tertiary education after completing the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

He emphasised that the government has heavily invested in education and that parents have a critical role in ensuring their children pursue higher education, whether at universities or technical and vocational colleges.

“Let’s ensure our children, whether they have qualified to join university or the technical and vocational colleges, do so because if we are to change the country, then we need to continue investing in our human resources,” he said.

This, he reiterated, is essential for enhancing the country’s human resource capacity and fostering national development.

Speaking at a burial ceremony in Homa Bay, Dr. Omollo highlighted the government’s achievements in reducing reliance on imported basic food items like maize and sugar by subsidising production.

He urged farmers to take advantage of the subsidised fertiliser programme to boost food production, ensuring food security at the household level and surplus for marketing.

“Many of the farmers have ignored the use of fertiliser to support production. Take this opportunity to benefit from government programmes so that you can have enough food for yourselves and for marketing purposes to address the challenges that come with food security,” he said.

On the other hand, Shipping and Maritime Affairs PS Geoffery Kaituko encouraged young people to register with the government’s labour migration programme.

He pointed out potential benefits of working abroad, including remittances that could significantly improve living standards back home.

“Our youth need to register with the programme so that they can go abroad for work and send money back home,” he said.
