Race for Kahawa Wendani nominations heats up

The race for the Kahawa Wendani ward Jubilee party nominations slated for Tuesday next week has heated up, attracting 11 aspirants.

Each of the aspirants has been racing against time to traverse the dense ward popularising themselves and selling their policies.

They called for free and fair nominations and pledged to support whoever wins the Jubilee nomination. They also warned the party leadership against imposing any candidate on the people.

The seat fell vacant following the mysterious death of Cyrus Omondi, the then area Ward Rep while on an official trip to India on February 12, this year.

Among those seeking the Jubilee ticket is a brother to the deceased MCA, Kevin Ochieng, Rose Karimi who lost to Omondi in 2017, community leader Samuel Kimani Mboshe, business woman Margaret Wanjiku, clergyman Bernard Kariuki, among others.

Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) recently announced that in the spirit of the handshake, it will not field a candidate for the seat and instead will back whoever wins the Jubilee nomination.

The ward is majorly a Jubilee zone with whoever wins the Jubilee nominations expected to become victorious in the by-elections.

The winner will square it out with Hellen Kiragu, an independent candidate.

Omondi, popularly known as ‘Gearbox’ died early this year, occasioning the by-election that will be on December 15.
