Road maintenance gains pace in Khwisero

Residents of Khwisero are set to benefit from improved road infrastructure after the Kakamega County Government intensifies maintenance of key roads across the area.

The works, being undertaken under the Rapid Results Initiative, are currently underway in Kisa East Ward, where three roads covering a combined 12 kilometres are being graded and maintained.

Executive Committee Member for Finance Benjamin Andama, who led an inspection of the works on Tuesday, said the programme would extend to other parts of Khwisero, including Kisa North, Kisa Central and Kisa West.

The roads currently undergoing maintenance are Munjiti–Mushichubulu, Khumupaka–Mwirembe and Emalindi–Nyanya Junction.

Andama said the intervention would ease movement of people and goods while improving access to markets for farmers and traders in the region.

“We are improving these roads to make movement easier for our people, particularly farmers who need to transport their produce to markets. Better roads will also support businesses and other economic activities,” Andama said.

He said the road maintenance programme was part of efforts to create an enabling environment for economic activities in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Wealth Creation Pillar.

Andama said the county was targeting to cover the entire Khwisero Sub-County within the next one week.

He was accompanied by Kisa East Ward Administrator Fredrick Ateya during the inspection.
