Two people were critically Sunday morning after Chania Genesis Bus rammed into the rear of a trailer at Ndii area in Voi Sub County along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
Twenty-eight other passengers sustained slight injuries during the dawn accident.
Police report say that the Mombasa-bound bus failed to keep its distance and crashed on the back of the trailer. Both vehicles were heading to Mombasa when the accident occurred.
The drivers for the bus and the trailer have gone into hiding.
Confirming the incident, Voi Police Boss Bernastein Shali said the injured were rushed to Moi County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Police have already launched a manhunt for the two drivers.
“We are looking for the drivers who have fled after endangering lives of passengers,” he said.
He added that over the festive season, police have started a crackdown on rogue drivers as he urged road users to be cautious and stick to traffic rules.
In the accident, two passengers suffered fractured legs while many others had tissue injuries, while a number lost their teeth from the impact.
