Security personnel recover 120 stolen livestock

Security personnel have recovered 120 cattle that were stolen over the weekend and two people also killed at Kulamawe grazing area, Garbatulla Sub-County, Isiolo County.

Isiolo County Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Omoding said that a man and his wife were shot dead by bandits believed to be from a neighbouring county.

The administrator said that 20 cattle were yet to be recovered and during the exchange of fire between the security men and bandits, two cows were shot dead and 18 injured.

Mr Omoding said that security officers from Isiolo and Samburu Counties are now jointly investigating the incident and warned those behind the outdated culture that their days are numbered.

He added that the investigation would not spare any suspect behind the cattle theft even if they are politicians.

Mr Omoding directed chiefs to closely supervise movement of local national police reservists and disarm those with unwanted behaviour.

On the ongoing heavy rains, Mr Omoding said that all 40 KCSE centres are operating smoothly despite few challenges in lowlands where flooding seasonal rivers cause delay before the start of the exam for 20 to 30 minutes.

He urged herders to move away from seasonal rivers and Ewaso Nyiro River since the volume of the water has been increasing causing destruction of bridges and roads.

The County Security boss said so far only one person has been confirmed dead following floods while the government in collaboration with Kenya Red Cross Society has identified 3,000 families that had been adversely affected.

Mr Omoding revealed that airlifting of food and non-food items has been ongoing in Bassa, Irehaboru, Badana and various places where the road network has been damaged.
