Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has praised the Kenya Kwanza government for accelerating development projects in the semi-arid region of Mbeere South and North constituencies.
Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations in Makima Ward, Mbeere South Constituency, the senator said the ongoing infrastructure projects are clear evidence of the government’s commitment to uplifting residents and unlocking the region’s economic potential.
“The region is finally receiving the attention it deserves after decades of neglect and marginalization,” Mundigi noted.
Mundigi said the tarmacking of the Gachoka-Gachuriri Road was among the landmark projects that will significantly improve transportation, ease the movement of goods and services, and open up the area for investment opportunities.
He added that the Kiritiri-Newsite and the PAI-Machang’a Roads will also connect communities, boost trade, and enhance access to essential services for thousands of residents.
The senator said that previous administrations overlooked many parts of Mbeere due to its harsh climatic conditions and sparse population, leaving residents struggling with poor infrastructure.
“The ongoing development projects demonstrate that the government is keen on ensuring that no part of the country is left behind,” said Mundigi.
He appealed to residents of both constituencies to continue supporting the government, saying such cooperation would enable the region to attract more initiatives in the coming years.
On education, Mundigi said he had embarked on an ambitious initiative to distribute computers to all public schools across the county to strengthen digital learning and prepare learners for the technology-driven future.
He said access to computers will enhance the quality of education, bridge the digital divide, and equip students with modern skills needed to compete effectively in an increasingly digital world.
Makima MCA Philip Nzangi appealed to the government to fast-track resolution of the longstanding land dispute involving the 44,000 acres of the Mwea Settlement Scheme.
He said they were in support of the ongoing government-backed Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) talks between the parties claiming ownership of the disputed land with a view to reaching an amicable solution.
