Sh850 million Gakoigo Stadium project takes shape in Murang’a

Construction works on the Sh850 million Gakoigo Stadium in Maragua Constituency, Murang’a County, are progressing steadily, with the 10,000-seater facility gradually taking shape.

The stadium is set to feature a standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletics track, modern changing rooms, a VVIP pavilion, ample parking space and other facilities designed to host national and international sporting events.

The Gakoigo Stadium project is part of the National Government’s wider plan to expand access to modern sports infrastructure across the 47 counties.

Murang’a County will have two modern stadiums upon completion, with another 10,000-capacity Mumbi Stadium currently under construction in Murang’a Town. Both facilities are expected to be completed by 2027.

The two stadiums are expected to boost sports development in the county by providing athletes with modern training and competition facilities while creating opportunities for hosting regional and national tournaments.

The projects are also expected to stimulate economic activities through increased sporting events, business opportunities and tourism in Murang’a and neighbouring counties.
