Sports Official calls for fairness during the ball games

The Eastern Region Secondary Schools Sports Association (ERSSA) Chairperson, Dr. Bernard Mutunga, has challenged sports officials and referees to uphold fairness and discipline, while teams play during the ball games term II.

Dr. Mutunga said this Makueni Boys High School, in Makueni Sub-county during the official opening of the Eastern Region Ball Games that attracted 8 counties that brought students to participate in the sports activities.

While urging the participants to play with passion and respect their opponents, he reminded them that this was an opportunity they had to showcase their talents besides nurturing their skills.

“I urge all participants to uphold honesty, respect the rules of the game and compete with integrity during the games,” said Dr. Mutunga.

“This is the opportunity to showcase your talent and play with passion, and let us all or loose with dignity and humility,” he added.

Dr. Mutunga assured the participants and officials that they will get all the support they need during the ongoing games that kicked off on 9th and will end on 12th Sunday, 2026.

Speaking during the same event, Makueni County Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu lauded the county government of Makueni for empowering the youths in developing their talents.

In this regard, Kimeu observed that through the gesture youths have hope and can look to a bright future as they will have the required skills to excel in sports activities.

“I want to applaud our governor for his commitment in empowering the youth and also developing their talents. This was demonstrated during the Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Games where Makueni scooped medals and that is your investment,” said Kimeu.

Addressing the gathering, Makueni County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Services, Eng. Sabastian Kyoni assured participants that the county government had made preparations to guarantee safety during the event.

He said the county had worked closely with the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) to organize the regional games, describing the partnership as a demonstration of the county’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent.

“We are glad to have partnered with the Secondary Schools Sports Association to host these regional games for we have walked this journey together, and today we are pleased to see the games become a reality,” Eng. Kyoni said

He said the county government would continue working with teachers, coaches, and sports officials to ensure the competition runs smoothly, while maintaining high standards of organization and athlete welfare.
