Uasin Gishu County plans to put up a diagnostic centre

The County government of Uasin Gishu has finalized plans for the construction of the first modern diagnostic Centre in Eldoret town to the tune of Sh. 437 million.

The transformative project will also be equipped at a cost of Sh.300 million and is expected to revolutionizing healthcare services in the region.

The ultra-modern facility set to be completed in three years’ time, will help in carrying out research and diagnosing DIAG many communicable diseases, giving a new phase to the current Uasin Gishu Hospitals located in the Central Business District and housed in an old building that has withstood the test of time.

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii underscored the importance of having an advanced medical technology facility that will improve healthcare delivery to the residents of Uasin Gishu and neighbouring counties.

“This diagnostic centre is a milestone in our efforts to strengthen healthcare in Uasin Gishu, by incorporating cutting-edge medical technology, we are ensuring that our residents receive top-notch quality healthcare without the need to travel long distances,” says the Governor.

Dr. Bii reiterated his administration’s vision of positioning Uasin Gishu as a regional hub for medical innovation, assuring residents that the County Government remains committed to equipping public health facilities to meet growing medical demands.

The county boss stresses that the facility will have adequate space for medical personnel and patients who visit to seek medication for various ailments.

He underscored the importance of making the diagnostic centre a flagship project, incorporating a well-thought-out architectural design to enhance its functionality.

Once operational, the centre is expected to significantly boost healthcare services in Uasin Gishu, solidifying Eldoret, which was elevated to a city last year, maintaining its status as a medical hub in the North Rift region.

The facility will house various medical services, with the ground floor dedicated to emergency care, outpatient services, ultrasound, a pediatric unit, a pharmacy, and laboratory services, while the first floor will feature radiology units—including X-ray and CT scan services—alongside theatres and intensive care units.

The second floor will accommodate wards for children and male and female patients, an additional ICU, a High Dependency Unit (HDU), and a theatre, while the third floor will host specialist clinics for renal, dental, ENT, and oncology services, and the fourth floor will include administrative offices, conference rooms, and lecture halls.

Speaking during a progress site meeting on Monday, County Executive for Health Services Eng. Joseph Lagat and his Roads and Public Works counterpart, Dr. Abraham Serem, highlighted the urgency to expedite the construction works to ensure the diagnostic centre is completed within the agreed-upon timeframe.

“This diagnostic centre is a crucial part of our county’s health system, and we are committed to ensuring that it is completed on time so that residents can begin to benefit from improved access to essential diagnostic services,” said Eng. Lagat.

Dr. Serem echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the interconnectedness between quality healthcare services and efficient infrastructure. “We are working closely with the contractor to eliminate any bottlenecks that may delay the project because timely delivery is not just a matter of pride but a critical need for our communities,” he stated.

Kipsomba Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mary Gorreti, who was part of the assessment team, pledged the full support of the County Assembly in facilitating the successful implementation of the project.

“We in the County Assembly are fully behind this initiative because the diagnostic centre will enhance the quality of health services offered in Uasin Gishu and reduce the burden on referral,” she said.
