The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has urged politicians and members of the public to shun hate speech, hooliganism and political chaos and instead promote peace, cohesion and issue-based politics during ongoing and upcoming by-elections across the country.
The call was made during the handover ceremony of the UDA nomination certificate to Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election winner Samuel Muchina Nyagah at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Thursday.
Speaking during the event, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar appealed to political leaders and supporters to maintain tolerance and unity during the campaigns, noting that the country’s stability and development depend on peaceful political engagement.
Omar cautioned against divisive politics and urged leaders to avoid actions that could create hostility among communities, saying all leaders should work together in supporting the government’s development agenda.
“Those of us who have been in opposition for quite long know how it feels when you see other areas being developed and represented fully in government. This makes me wonder how some people choose to move away from government and later start searching for government support while outside,” Omar stated.
He called on Kenyans to support the development programmes initiated by President William Ruto, arguing that many regions had already benefited from infrastructure and economic empowerment projects under the current administration.
According to Omar, the government has implemented projects such as tarmac roads, modern markets, stadiums and rural electrification programmes in different parts of the country, thereby improving the livelihoods of wananchi.
Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria echoed Omar’s sentiments, saying the Ol Kalou and Emurua Dikirr by-elections should not be turned into platforms for smear campaigns and political sloganeering.
Kuria said the by-elections should instead focus on the real challenges facing ordinary citizens and on ensuring stalled development projects are completed.

He emphasised that residents of Ol Kalou should support the ruling party in order to benefit from the government’s broad national development agenda, which he said has been implemented without discrimination since President Ruto assumed office.
“I want to tell our brothers that we are more focused on delivering services to Kenyans and not engaging in empty rhetoric without an agenda. We will ensure we capture the slated by-elections in the vacant constituencies and wards so that we can complete the projects we started before the next general election,” Kuria said.
Kuria further maintained that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises to wananchi through improved infrastructure, healthcare services, electricity connectivity and economic empowerment initiatives.
Nyandarua County Woman Representative Faith Gitau also urged residents of Ol Kalou Constituency to support the pro-government candidate during the by-election scheduled for July 26, 2026.
Gitau said electing a candidate aligned to the government would help accelerate the completion of projects initiated by the late legislator David Kiaraho.
She cited key ongoing projects in the constituency, including a stadium project, a hospital project and the construction of a modern market, saying their successful completion depended on continued cooperation between local leadership and the national government.
The Woman Representative also highlighted the importance of government-backed programmes such as the Social Health Authority and last-mile electricity connectivity, saying residents would benefit more if they remained aligned with the government.
“I am begging you, please let us have peaceful campaigns so that our stadium project, hospital project and the ongoing construction of the modern market can be completed. We have several projects initiated by President William Ruto in this area and I believe wananchi understand the importance of continuity in development,” she appealed.
Immediately after receiving his nomination certificate following successful UDA party primaries, Samuel Muchina Nyagah thanked party members and constituents for entrusting him with the responsibility of carrying the party flag in the parliamentary race.
Muchina said he was honoured by the confidence shown in him by party supporters and pledged to champion development projects and quality healthcare services if elected.
He also commended the other five aspirants who participated in the nominations for accepting the outcome of the primaries and agreeing to support his candidature ahead of the by-election.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of former Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, who was affiliated with the Jubilee Party associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I want to thank the party leadership and the people of Ol Kalou for entrusting me with this nomination. I will work hard to ensure our people benefit from government projects and have access to quality healthcare services,” Muchina stated.
