A 58-year-old woman is nursing serious spear wounds after unknown assailants attacked her home in Kadiang’a Sub Location, Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu County last night.
The victim, Rose Abandulfa, popularly known as Nyar Jimo, was assaulted at around 2am in a shocking incident that left the community in fear.
Confirming the attack, Upper Nyakach Assistant County Commissioner Dawin Orina said the assailants struck with arrows and spears.
Orina said though the homestead had several heads of cattle, nothing was stolen during the raid, leaving many puzzled about the invadeers’ motive.
“Police have launched investigations to arrest the perpetrators. Security has been intensified to protect lives and property in the area,” Orina assured.
Abandulfa was quickly rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Nyabondo, before being transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) for specialized treatment.
The incident comes amid rising security concerns along the volatile borderline.
The Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), local security teams, and community policing groups have been mobilized to patrol the area and curb further attacks.
Orina appealed for calm, urging residents of Sigowet-Soin in the neighboring Kericho County, Nyakach, and Kabondo to cooperate with security agencies.
“All suspects involved in cattle rustling and related violence are on notice. The government will act firmly against them. Let us allow security agencies to do their work,” he stated.
