Vihiga County Government’s Department of Public Service Management and ICT, in partnership with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), has organized a three-day capacity-building workshop for the county’s staff in order to sensitize them on the provisions and implementation of the Conflict-of-Interest Act, 2025.
The workshop was officially opened by the Vihiga County Deputy Governor, Wilberforce Kitiezo, on behalf of the area Governor, Dr. Wilber Ottichilo.
During the occasion, Governor Ottichilo noted that EACC had been instrumental in supporting the county government’s efforts to strengthen national values such as integrity, accountability, and upholding ethical conduct in public service.
Governor Ottichilo further said that the enactment of the Conflict-of-Interest Act, 2025, marks a significant step in strengthening Kenya’s governance and anti-corruption framework.
Ottichilo praised the workshop, noting that it would enable the county government to align its systems with the new legal framework, enhance institutional readiness, and equip county officers with practical knowledge and tools to identify, declare, and manage real, apparent, and potential conflicts of interest.
“The departmental and sub-county anti-corruption committees have been established as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen integrity and accountability across the county government,” stated Ottichilo.
He further encouraged the county staff to take the declaration of income, assets, and liabilities as an important measure in promoting transparency and accountability in public service.
The EACC team led by the Regional Manager for the Central Nyanza Region, Abraham Kemboi, will take county officials through various topics relating to conflicts of interest and the implementation of the new legal framework, with the workshop expected to strengthen their capacity.
