Vihiga County Government Sponsors 158 learners to Join Form One

Vihiga county government has offered scholarships to 158 learners who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2023 and are set to join various secondary schools from today.

The county has sponsored 94 boys and 64 girls respectively, who are bright but hail from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by paying school fees in full, purchasing the necessary personal items, pocket money, and fare for transport to reach their schools.

Speaking while flagging off the beneficiaries at the county headquarters, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo challenged them to sustain excellent performance to reach the highest level of education possible.

He noted that they will be keeping track of the progress of each of them to ensure they perform as expected.

Dr. Ottichilo stated that the team is the sixth cohort of the programme that began in the year 2019 and has benefited 700 students so far.

He disclosed that the first cohort are currently second-year university students pursuing mainly engineering and medicine courses and are bound to work for the county government upon graduation.

The county head added that the move is aimed at boosting the human resource, particularly in the health sector, where there is an acute shortage of personnel.
