Vihiga County Government and the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at improving access to safe water and sanitation services across the county.
Governor Dr. Wilberforce Khasilwa Ottichilo on Friday hosted a delegation from LVNWWDA at the County Headquarters in Mbale, where the two parties discussed strategies to revitalize the Vihiga Water and Sanitation Company (VIWASCO) to enhance efficient and reliable service delivery.
Speaking during the meeting, th governor said access to clean and safe water remains a key priority for his administration, adding that partnerships with institutions such as LVNWWDA are critical in expanding water infrastructure and ensuring every household has access to quality water and sanitation services.
The Governor noted that a well-managed and efficient VIWASCO would not only improve water supply but also promote public health, environmental conservation and economic growth in the county.
He said reliable access to clean water would reduce the time families spend searching for water, improve hygiene standards in schools and health facilities, and support farmers and small-scale businesses that depend on a steady water supply.
Leading the LVNWWDA delegation, Board Director Rev. Douglas Beru reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working closely with the County Government to implement sustainable water projects that address the growing demand for clean water in Vihiga.
LVNWWDA Chief Executive Officer Joel Wamalwa said the agency values its partnership with the county and remains committed to supporting reforms and infrastructure development aimed at strengthening VIWASCO’s operations.
Wamalwa observed that improving water and sanitation services requires sustained collaboration between national government agencies, county governments and local communities to guarantee long-term sustainability.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Vihiga County Government and LVNWWDA to delivering sustainable water and sanitation solutions through improved service delivery, strengthened institutions and enhanced partnerships for the benefit of residents.
Among those present were County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning Onzere Mulongo, LVNWWDA Director of Infrastructure Development Eng. Christopher Bwire, and Deputy Director of Corporate Communications Tom Musungu, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer’s representative on the VIWASCO Board.
