Vihiga marks world clean-up day, amid calls for sustainable waste management

The Vihiga county government has joined in commemorating the World Clean Up Day 2025, under the global theme: Tackling Textile and Fashion Waste through Circular Fashion.

The event, held at Mumboha primary school in Luanda sub county, brought together the business community, learning institutions county officials and other stakeholders in a collective effort to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

The activities of the day included a clean-up exercise in Luanda town, followed by a tree-planting drive at Mumboha primary school.

Speaking during the event, the County Director of Environment, Aquila Lwanga, emphasized the need to instill a culture of environmental conservation among the younger generation.

She reaffirmed the county’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders to promote sustainable waste management and transition towards a circular economy, where waste is converted into opportunities for livelihoods.

Lwanga extended appreciation to the participating schools and organizations including Mumboha primary school and secondary school, Mulwakhi secondary school, Scouts Association Luanda, Luanda Market Committee, the Luanda business community led by Equity Bank and other partners for their support in making the event a success.
