Vihiga MP hands over bus and launches Sh35 million bursary

Vihiga Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Ernest Kivai Kagesi has officially handed over a new 32-seater institutional bus to Chanzeywe Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in Mungoma Ward, Vihiga County.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the legislator emphasized that the vehicle is a community asset designed to serve both the student body and local residents.

During the event, Hon. Kivai announced a series of strategic interventions aimed at boosting the college’s capacity, improving student welfare, and strengthening local education through national funding mechanisms.

He revealed that National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) allocations for Chanzeywe TVC will be doubled to accommodate the institution’s growing student population, particularly those from Vihiga Constituency. The funding boost is expected to enhance enrollment and improve training facilities.

The MP further committed to lobbying for additional infrastructural development to address the institution’s need for expanded workshops and training spaces. He also urged the college’s board of management to resolve outstanding land ownership issues to facilitate future expansion plans.

Addressing the shortage of student accommodation, Hon. Kivai said he had engaged President William Ruto on the matter, adding that construction of modern hostel units is being considered under the national government’s Affordable Housing Programme.

In addition, the MP presided over the release of Sh35 million in secondary school bursary funds for the 2025/2026 financial year. He apologized for delays in disbursement, explaining that emergency funds had been temporarily redirected to support families displaced by the ongoing construction of Kidundu Stadium.

He assured residents that bursary application forms for tertiary institutions would be made available once the next tranche of funds is released from the national exchequer.

Hon. Kivai urged students to adopt peaceful and constructive approaches when addressing grievances, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability within learning institutions across the constituency.
