Vihiga County is set to showcase its Indigenous Knowledge (IK) assets at the inaugural Cultural Investment Conference in Murang’a County slated for April 21st to 23rd, 2026.
The event is organized by the Natural Products Industry (NPI) under the National Museums of Kenya, State Department of Culture.
During a courtesy call to Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, Lung’afa Igunza, President of the Young Cultural Champions of Vihiga, confirmed to the governor that they were ready to participate at the conference in Murang’a.
He briefed the governor on stakeholder consultations that led to the documentation, review, prioritization, and packaging of the county’s IK assets for investment that will be showcased at the event.
The assets include Vukhulu Tiriki dance, value-added Tsisaga and African leafy vegetables, basketry and handcrafts, Nammonywa rain-making heritage shrine, and a medicinal product for prostate enlargement currently under assessment at the National Drugs Study Laboratory.
Lung’afa urged the county to support the design and marketing of cultural attire, research and publication in mother languages, and provision of materials for creative arts to enhance youth engagement in economic development through culture.
Governor Ottichilo commended Vihiga’s achievements under the Indigenous Knowledge Documentation and Digitization (IKDODI) program, one of 13 pilot counties, and pledged support to ensure effective presentation and investment in the county’s cultural assets.
