Women Demonstrate against Rape in Likuyani

Hundreds of women from Sango ward in Likuyani Sub County staged a demonstration on Wednesday protesting against increased cases of rape and murder of women in the area.

Led by former nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA), Mrs. Florence Masika, they cited the incident where a 65-year-old Jerusa Obware and her 13-year-old niece Melvin Dindi were raped and strangled on the night of October 6 in her house at Nzoia village.

The women lamented that in a span of two weeks four victims have been raped and murdered in the area.

They said prior to the incident, a 24-year-old Winter Ganigi had been raped and killed in the neighbouring Mapendo village in the same ward on the night of 1st October while on 30th of September another 24-year-old Emma Wanyota suffered the same fate in Moi’s Bridge area.

Sango ward MCA Kennedy Kilwake who joined the demonstrators appealed for a speedy investigation into the incidences so as to bring the perpetrators to book.

“The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be hunted down and be made to face the full force of law,” he said.
