Religious leaders, government officials, and members of the public have held the first-ever Mukothima Sub-county ‘Prayer Day’ dedicating the area, its people, and development processes to God.
The prayer meeting, held at the Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) office compound in Gikingo Location, brought together leaders from different church denominations, Heads of Departments (HoDs), administrators, and about 200 members of the public.
According to the area DCC Mr. Peter Mutiso, the interdenominational prayers focused on six key areas, including economic well-being and prosperity, social and cultural issues, political stability ahead of the 2027 General Election, education, health, and infrastructure development.
He said the clergy also prayed over challenges affecting residents, including illicit brews, land demarcation, the Social Health Authority (SHA), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and environmental conservation.
The Inter-Faith Fellowship Chairman, Apostle Julius Kathenya, commended the Office of the DCC for convening the prayer meeting, describing it as an important platform for bringing religious leaders, government officials, and the community together.
“The initiative should be replicated at the divisional, location, and sub-location levels to promote unity, peace, and development,” said Apostle Kathenya.
The prayers brought together the Assistant County Commissioner for Mukothima, Mr Evans Kimani, Sub-county Police Commander, Geoffrey Ojuma, Administration Police Commander, George Fondo, Sub-county Director of Education, James Muchiri, Sub-county Public Health Officer, Daniel Ngoci, Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs, area managers and Community Health Promoters.
Also in attendance were members of the Mukothima Senior School Christian Union, representatives of TransNation SACCO Mukothima Branch led by Mrs. Stella Gitari, clergy from various denominations, and members of the public.
The leaders urged residents to embrace peaceful co-existence and work together in addressing social and economic challenges facing the sub-county.
