Vihiga Muslim leaders condemn attack on Senator Osotsi

Vihiga County Muslim leaders have strongly condemned Wednesday’s  attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi  inside a Kisumu hotel.

Speaking at Bayusuf Mosque in Sabatia Subcounty, the leaders called for thorough investigations into the matter to bring all those responsible to book.

National Muslim Forum Vihiga County Chief Imam Ahmad Lijode also questioned the conduct of the senator’s security detail during the assault.

“Where was the senator’s security personnel when he was being assaulted yesterday in Kisumu? Does his security team know their work?” he queried.

Lijode urged authorities to investigate the motive behind the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice using available evidence, including CCTV footage.

He emphasised that the incident should not be viewed as tribalism, noting, “We are not blaming the Luo community as a whole but the individuals involved in this heinous act.”

Halima Abdi, another leader of the National Muslim Forum, highlighted the importance of constitutional freedoms, including freedom of association and expression.

She condemned the attack and called for unity and peaceful political engagement, especially with the General Election approaching.

“We are heading to the election year. I plead with all political candidates to engage in peaceful campaigns, as elections will come and go but a life lost cannot be recovered,” she said.

Chief Imam of Sabatia Subcounty, Omar Mudave, also advocated for political independence and peace, urging youths not to be used as instruments of violence.
