The Government is set to hand over the Githunguri Level V Hospital by the end of April 2026, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and enhance service delivery to wananchi.
Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, Wednesday, conducted an inspection tour of the facility and expressed satisfaction with the progress, affirming that construction works are in their final stages.
Dr. Mariru noted that the main Hospital block has been completed, while the utility section, which includes essential support services such as the kitchen and laundry, is nearing completion.

“I am satisfied with the work done so far. The main block is technically complete, and the utility block is almost done. The entire facility will be ready by the end of this month for handover,” said the PS.
He reiterated that the project is being implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence, in line with a directive by President William Ruto to fast-track critical national projects and ensure timely delivery of essential public services.
Once operational, the Githunguri Level 5 Hospital is expected to serve as a major referral facility for Kiambu County and its environs, significantly improving access to quality and specialized healthcare services.
The facility is also projected to ease congestion in existing hospitals within the region and reduce the burden on patients who have previously been compelled to seek treatment in distant facilities.
The project underscores the Government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), a key pillar in the National Development Agenda, by investing in modern and well-equipped health institutions across the country.
The involvement of the Kenya Defence Forces in the construction of the Hospital highlights the growing role of disciplined forces in supporting national development through timely and efficient execution of strategic infrastructure projects.
Residents and leaders from Githunguri and neighboring areas have welcomed the nearing completion of the Hospital, expressing optimism that the facility will not only improve healthcare outcomes, but also create employment opportunities and spur socio-economic growth in the region.
The hospital is expected to provide a wide range of services, including inpatient and outpatient care, maternal and child health services, as well as specialized treatment, positioning it as a critical pillar in the county’s health system.
With final touches ongoing, the Government has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the facility is fully equipped and operational upon handover.
The completion and imminent commissioning of the Githunguri Level 5 Hospital stands as a testament to the Government’s resolve to deliver on its development promises and improve the quality of life for all Kenyans through accessible and affordable healthcare.
