Teachers in Makueni County have praised the outgoing Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director Abubakar Hassan for the exemplary leadership he offered during his tenure in the area.
Hassan, who has been in Makueni since July 2025, has been promoted to be the TSC Eastern Regional Director (RD).
John Paul Wepoghe, who has been serving as TSC Deputy Director in West Pokot County has replaced him.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Makueni County Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Chairman Dr. Johnstone Ndivo said that the outgoing Director was always available to offer solutions to problems facing teachers in the area.
“The local school principals and head teachers are happy with your leadership; you were always ready to offer solutions to issues pertaining to teachers whenever they came to your office. Now that you have gotten additional responsibilities, I wish you well,” said Dr. Ndivo during the handing over at the County Commissioner’s Boardroom.
Further Ndivo, who is also the Principal, Matiliku Boys High School, said Hassan never wanted any teacher to be mistreated, whenever he/she went to seek for services at the office.
On his part, the Organizing and Publicity Secretary of the Executive Board of the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA), Nicodemus Musyoka, lauded the outgoing director for streamlining the local education sector.
“For the short time you have been here, you have inculcated a sense of discipline. Teachers are no longer queuing in the waiting room to be served,” observed Musyoka.
Also, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Makueni Branch Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu praised the director for giving a listening ear to teachers’ issues that he executed promptly.
“Even the political class were happy with your work. There is no time you failed to listen to us regardless of how many times we visited your office. We welcome the new director to continue from where you have left,” said Kimeu.
During the handing over ceremony, the TSC Mbooni East Subcounty Director Said Ore praised the director for reducing their job stress especially when they worked late into the night.
“We have enjoyed massive freedom under your leadership. May our blessings follow you,” said Ore, who spoke on behalf of the TSC staff in the county.
“You always insisted on fairness all the time. I remember you asking us occasionally, when we last went on leave, we appreciate your leadership,” he added.
In his remarks, Hasssan while thanking staff under him and the overall teaching fraternity in Makueni, noted that teachers faced numerous issues including mental health, hence it was imperative to embrace dialogue all the time.
“Every county has its own unique problems; we have to talk frequently and solve them,” he said, adding that he had no business micromanaging other officers in the field.
