Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has announced a series of transformative projects in healthcare, sports and youth development aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for residents across the County.
Speaking at Mugona Grounds in Maara Constituency during the official closing ceremony of the county’s two-day cultural festival, Njuki said his administration remains committed to ensuring essential services are accessible to all residents.
The governor revealed plans to upgrade Muthambi Hospital to a Level Four facility, citing the need to bring quality healthcare services closer to the people.

He noted that many residents currently travel long distances to access medical services at Magutuni Level Four Hospital, creating the need for a well-equipped facility in Muthambi.
The proposed hospital will feature a maternity wing, a modern theatre and other critical medical services aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the area.
Njuki further announced that the county government has already allocated funds for the construction of an outpatient block, marking the first phase of the hospital’s expansion.
In a major boost to maternal and child healthcare, the governor said the county government has partnered with the Safaricom Foundation to implement a Sh54 million Mother-to-Child Health Project at Muthambi Hospital.
He added that Safaricom has also supported other healthcare initiatives in the county, including projects at Mpukoni and Gatunga health facilities.
The governor also unveiled plans to purchase a county government bus dedicated to transporting youth football teams to tournaments and competitions.
He said the initiative will ease the financial burden on teams that currently rely on hired vehicles and enhance the participation of young athletes in regional and national sporting events.
“The bus will be available before December and will support our youth whenever they are travelling for competitions,” he said.
To further nurture talent among learners, Njuki announced that the county government will construct a swimming pool at Kajiunduthi before the end of the year.
The facility is expected to provide training opportunities for young swimmers and support schools participating in swimming competitions.
Njuki said the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to investing in healthcare, youth empowerment and sports development as key drivers of socio-economic transformation in Tharaka Nithi County.
The announcements came as hundreds of residents gathered to mark the conclusion of the cultural festival, which celebrated the county’s rich heritage while providing a platform for leaders to outline development priorities.
