County inducts recruited officers

The County Government of Nyeri has inducted 128 new officers who will serve in various departments.

Among the new recruits who underwent the one-day induction course include 102 who will serve in the Department of Medical Services and Public Health and another 21 who will be posted to the Department of Education, Training and Devolution.

Two of the recruited officers will be based at the Governor’s office while the Department of Finance, Trade, Culture and Tourism will each get one officer.

Speaking at the Cultural Center in Nyeri while opening the induction course, Governor Dr Mutahi Kahiga termed the exercise a necessary end in equipping the new officers with the prerequisite skills and expertise in serving the public in their respective dockets.

Dr Kahiga also challenged the officers to be ready to serve the public with dedication saying this was the very reason they were picked from a pool of qualified Kenyans who were equally qualified for the task.

“Today’s session is designed to equip the officers with the knowledge, skills and values required to deliver efficient, transparent and citizen- favouring services,” he posted on his Facebook page.

“By the end of the exercise, the officers will have been familiarized with the County Government structure, Human Resource Policies and Procedures, Public Service Ethics, Customer Care, Public Relations, and the constitutional principles that guide public service.”

The County boss similarly touched on the need for public officers to uphold the highest level of professionalism in their work saying this was the only pathway  in delivery of quality services to the public.

He also underscored the need for the officers to adhere to the regulations and guidelines outlined in the Human Resource manual and applicable laws in the Constitution.

The Governor similarly hailed the officers for their choice in joining the public Service and said their deployment will strengthen service delivery across key sectors of the County Government.

“I would like to remind the officers that public service is a calling founded on integrity, accountability, discipline and professionalism. I therefore urge you to uphold the values under Article 232 of the Constitution by serving with honesty, safeguarding public resources, embracing teamwork and innovation and ensuring responsive, equitable and people-centered service delivery.,” he stressed.

“I also wish to reaffirm my administration’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption, abuse of office, absenteeism and all forms of unethical conduct.”

The officers were also reminded of the need to upscale their skills by enrolling in professional training that can place them in a vantage position in the ever changing global job market.

Dr Kahiga said the global work station is undergoing rapid transformation thanks to emerging new innovations such as the AI and therefore the need to align with the changes through tapping on such skills through constant acquisition of retooling training.

“As you embark on your professional journey, I encourage you to pursue continuous learning, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and always remember that every interaction with the public reflects the image of the County Government. I am confident you will make a meaningful contribution towards advancing our development vision and improving the lives of the people of Nyeri,” urged Kahiga.

Others present during the event included the County Secretary, Edward Irungu, CECMs Peter Macharia (County Public Service and Solid Waste Management), Ndirangu Gachunia (Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development), Esther Ndung’u (Gender, Youth and Sports), Dr. Joseph Kiragu (Medical Services and Public Health) among others.
