Police in Nyakach Sub-County have launched investigations into a distressing incident where a Grade Eight pupil was allegedly abducted and defiled by unknown assailants in Kadianga Sub-location in Nyando.
According to the victim’s father, Jerome Odhiambo Ajejo, the attack occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday when a group of men stormed his home and demanded that the girls open their bedroom door, where the victim was sleeping with her elder sister and two younger children.
“The children refused to open and screamed for help. When we tried to come out and intervene, the attackers hurled a huge stone at our door, blocking our way out,” Ajejo recounted.
The assailants eventually broke into the room and dragged the 14-year-old girl away toward the Kericho County side. Neighbours who heard the commotion responded quickly and helped report the incident at Maraboi Police Station, prompting an immediate search.
Ajejo said his daughter returned home at around 5 a.m., exhausted, muddy, and visibly bruised. “She told us she had been taken to a forest behind the Maraboi area, where two men repeatedly defiled her,” he added.
The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Nyabondo Mission Hospital for treatment and medical examination.
Upper Nyakach Assistant County Commissioner, Dawin Orina, confirmed the incident, condemning the attack and assuring that security officers and DCI personnel were already on the ground hunting down the perpetrators of heinous crime.
“Investigations are ongoing, and all suspects will be arrested and brought to justice,” he said.
South East Nyakach Ward MCA, Patrick Owade, also condemned the incident and raised concern over rising insecurity along the Nyakach–Sondu–Kericho border.
“These heinous acts must be eliminated. We urge police to heighten night patrols and respond swiftly to distress calls,” he stated.
The MCA further called on security agencies to develop practical strategies to tackle crime in the volatile border region. Local residents echoed similar concerns, citing a recent attack in the same area where an elderly woman sustained spear injuries.
