The Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) Vihiga Chapter, held its elections on Saturday January 17, 2026 at Mukuli Primary school in Vihiga Sub County where Hebert Kenogo won the Chairperson’s seat.

Speaking to the press, the elections commissioner, Moses Muyundi said that the contestants for Branch Secretary and the assistant, Branch Treasurer and the assistant, women representative and youth leader were elected unopposed and therefore no elections were conducted for those seats.

Muyundi said the branch secretary, Victor Mindalimu, youth leader, Abdallah Chanzu, Women Representative, Lucy Maliazo, Deputy Women Representative, Pamela Were, Vice Treasurer, Evans Mokua and the treasurer, David Olindo were elected unopposed.

He added that the elective seats included those of the chairperson and vice chairperson, where the Vice chairperson garnered 238 votes, out of a total of 300 voters.

“On the chairperson’s elections, the declared winner, Hebert Kenogo garnered a total of 75 votes while his opponent Moses Ombaso who is the outgoing chairperson got 20 votes upon which Moses brought in goons who started destroying voting materials when he realized he was losing as the vote counting was underway,” confirmed Muyundi.

In his maiden speech Kenogo, the incoming chairperson, said that they would work hard to serve their members by ensuring equity and fairness in all union activities.

He further claimed that the outgoing regime had practiced unfairness and biases in their leadership and they were the ones responsible for the conflict witnessed today during the elections.

The outgoing Chairperson, Moses Ombaso blamed elections commissioners, Moses Muyundi for conducting the elections in a biased manner, calling upon the General Secretary of the County Government Workers Union to step in and call for repeat elections.

He further added that he never saw the ballot papers arrive and the elections commenced before he arrived, yet he was one of the candidates.

He accused one Allan Mtange, a non-member of the workers union of being in possession of ballot papers and urging voters to vote for his competitor.
