Internal wrangles within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are not healthy for a party preparing for the 2027 general elections, Siaya county woman representative, Dr Christine Ombaka has asserted and urged party officials to sort them out fast.
According to Dr Ombaka, there is need for the current officials, under the leadership of party leader, Dr Oburu Oginga to emulate his predecessor, Raila Odinga and called the officials for a dialogue to discuss the problems and come up with solutions.
She was speaking at Asembo Kamito in Rarieda constituency after she presided over the opening of a multimillion shilling modern market constructed by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) and distribution of more than 7.2 million shillings to various groups.
“The party, ODM is going through teething problems. These problems are normal for any political situation” she said adding “so far, we are handling them well.”
She, however, called for immediate solution to the problems as time was not on the party’s side given that 2027 is just around the corner.
Dr Ombaka said the ODM brigade was fully behind the new party leader whom he described as a capable, experienced and well-educated leader.
She said that the party supporters were ready to support any decision that ODM will make ahead of the next general elections, even if it means merger with president William Ruto’s UDA party.
“Let us be patient and wait for the party to make a decision. The party has very intelligent and educated people. We have the brains in the party,” she said.
Siaya county NGAAF coordinator, Nancy Okademi who also addressed the occasion called on the beneficiaries of NGAAF grants to make use of the funds to improve their lives.
Among those who attended the occasion were the Siaya county NGAAF chairman, Bishop Martin Arara and members of the county assembly, Godwin Onguru (East Asembo ward) and Dorothy Oinga (Nominated)
