‎Media Council deploys monitors for by-election coverage

By S, KNA

‎The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has deployed monitors across areas conducting by-elections to monitor media coverage and ensure journalists operate within the set professional standards.

‎ Speaking in Siakago Town in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County, on Thursday, MCK Official Jackson Karanja urged journalists to strictly adhere to the Media Code of Conduct throughout the exercise.

‎ He emphasized that responsible reporting remains key in safeguarding the credibility of the by-elections.

‎ Karanja appealed to security agencies and election officials to grant journalists the space and time to render their constitutional mandate of informing the public.

‎ “Access to information is a right and not a favor and so we expect authorities to allow journalists to do their work without interference,” he said.

‎ He condemned reported incidents of intimidation of journalists in some areas.

‎ Karanja said no one should threaten or obstruct journalists in their pursuit of gathering information for the public.

‎ He reminded reporters covering the Mbeere North by-election to prioritise accuracy, balance, and fairness in all their stories.

‎ He said the council was pleased with the professionalism displayed so far and encouraged them to maintain the standards until the end of the exercise.
