Narok County plans sensitisation ahead of railway construction

Narok County governor, Patrick Ole Ntutu has announced that they will conduct sensitisation meetings with the local leaders and residents in a bid to enlighten them on the proposed railway line that will cover approximately 98 kilometers within the County.

Speaking at the County’s headquarters after a meeting with the Kenya Railways Managing Director (MD), Philip Maingi, the governor said that such forums will pave way for transparency and give the locals an opportunity to understand the project’s scope, expected benefits and its potential impact to their economy.

During such public participation forums, Ntutu further said that the affected residents will also be informed on the compensation procedures involved with the help of the National Lands Commission (NLC) officers and surveyors present.

The close working relationship with other stakeholders in this major infrastructure project according to the county boss will ensure smooth coordination and ensure that the community fully embraces it for a better tomorrow.

The MD on his part said that the railway line is set to go through Narok, Bomet, Kericho counties all the way to Malaba through the Nyanza region and will cover 269 km in total.

He further noted that the entire route has already been identified and the NLC officers are already working on the details of those who are to be compensated.

The directive follows an announcement by President William Ruto to extend the Standard Gauge Railway through Narok County aimed at improving the local economy and improving the transport infrastructure too.

The railway line project is set to be commissioned in mid-March.
