Narok County Police Commander, Patrick Lobolia has strongly warned locals residing close to Mara River and tourist guides to stay away from flooded areas as these points could pose a serious danger to their lives.
His sentiments come after the wreckage of a tourist service vehicle having two occupants was retrieved today at Mararianda bridge after it was swept away by the raging waters on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, the duo believed to have been inside the said vehicle are yet to be recovered as this section where the incident occurred is said to be highly infested by crocodiles and hippopotamuses thus hampering the rescue effort.
He affirmed that the rescue mission is still ongoing as some Kenya Wildlife Service officers have been deployed to assist in the search operation using boats.
The police commander urged them to be each other’s keeper when they find swollen rivers and use alternative route, when need be, to avert such occurrences in future.
The two missing men who were said to be from Nyota camp.
Area governor, Patrick Ntutu visited the scene and pledged that the County government will look into the issue of reconstructing this bridge to allow the locals and tour guides use it at all times.
