Residents of Langas Ward in Uasin Gishu County are set to benefit from an infrastructure boost worth over Sh57 million aimed at upgrading roads, expanding electricity connectivity, and enhancing security in the area.
The multi-million-shilling initiative is a joint partnership between the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), the County Government of Uasin Gishu, and Kenya Power and Lighting Company.
Speaking during a site inspection of ongoing projects, KURA Engineer David Mutuohoro assured residents that high construction standards will be strictly maintained so that the newly refurbished roads can serve the public effectively for years to come.
Langas Member of County Assembly (MCA) Francis Muya confirmed that residents will not pay any connection fees for the electrification project, as the County Government of Uasin Gishu has fully absorbed the costs.
He further disclosed that Sh7 million has been allocated specifically for expanding street lighting throughout the ward.
Through the initiative over 600 households have been connected to electricity,’ he affirmed
“The installation of streetlights will boost the night-time economy and guarantee a safe environment for schoolchildren commuting,” Muya noted.
Local residents and stakeholders welcomed the developments. including driver Denis Mwangi, pedestrian Florence Mwaura, and residents Lillian Njoroge and Nduta Njenga.
They noted that achieving a 100 percent power connection rate alongside improved road networks will lower transport and vehicle maintenance costs, enhance security, and spur economic growth in Uasin Gishu’s most populous ward.
