Uasin Gishu County has accelerated final preparations for this year’s World Tourism Day celebrations following a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened to assess its readiness and align logistics ahead of the event.
The meeting, chaired by County Secretary Philip Melly, brought together senior county officials, tourism and hospitality players, institutional representatives and an advance team from the State Department for Tourism and Wildlife.
The tourism celebrations are scheduled to run from September 23 to 27, 2026, at the University of Eldoret.
“We are on track and fully committed to delivering a seamless and impactful World Tourism Day,” Melly said, adding, “This gathering has allowed us to focus on logistics, strengthen coordination and ensure every visitor experiences the best of what Uasin Gishu has to offer.”
The discussions centred on event coordination, visibility, tourism experiences and measures to host the expected influx of participants successfully.
The meeting revealed that the county had prepared a programme showcasing sports tourism, culture and heritage, nature and landscapes, agri-tourism and urban experiences.
This year’s celebrations theme, Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism, presents a timely opportunity where technology and artificial intelligence are reshaping how destinations attract and engage visitors. Uasin Gishu is ready to demonstrate how digital tools can unlock new value in our tourism offerings. The celebrations would double as an investment platform,” stated the County Director of Tourism Margaret Aiyabei.
The County Chief Officer for Trade and Cooperatives Elphas Kesio on his part added, “Beyond the festivities, this is a chance to highlight concrete tourism and investment opportunities and deepen partnerships between government, the private sector, institutions and local communities.”
The officials exuded confidence that the event would position Uasin Gishu as a competitive tourism destination while reinforcing collaboration across sectors.
