Church unveils manual to promote holistic teaching among teenagers

A.C.K. Christ the King Cathedral Church, Nyahururu, Diocese of Nyahururu, has launched a teaching manual aimed at equipping and guiding teens in holistic growth to become respectable and responsible members of society.

This comes at the backdrop of the current rampant unrest of students, the majority being teenagers in senior schools across the country, where several schools have experienced destruction of property.

While launching the manual, Provost Rev. John Ngenye said the teaching manual aims to equip the teens not only in spiritual development but also in other areas of social development.

On spiritual and character development, Rev. Ngenye said the teens will be taught spiritual virtues of purity, honesty, and respect for authority and others, among many other virtues.

“Apart from being taught on spiritual and character development, the teens will be taught on how to do gospel outreach and public speaking as well as how to organize events,” noted the provost.

In the teaching manual, the provost said the young learners will also be taught life skills on how to handle stress and how to manage anger.

“The teens through the teaching manual will be guided on how to build self-esteem, health, physical well-being, and conflict resolution skills,” added Rev. Ngenye.

The provost further pointed out that through the teaching manual the teens will be taught to grow as responsible persons through being taught how to take and own responsibilities as well as being good stewards.

“The teens will be taught financial management, debt management, and a saving culture so they can be prudent financial managers,” added Rev. Ngenye.

In addition, the cleric said through the teaching manual the teens will be taught how to bond with their parents as well as skills for partnership with them.

Rev. Ngenye said the teaching manual will help in ensuring consistent instruction to the teens, and also parents will be aware of what their children are being taught by the teen department.

The provost called upon the parents to work closely with the teens’ department to fast-track the equipping of holistic skills in their children so as to enable them to grow as respectable and responsible citizens both in the church and in society.
