Court orders for a probation report on students accused of arson

A  Makueni  Court has ordered for a probation report on seven students accused of arson at Kitonyini  Secondary  School.

The  Senior  Principal  Magistrate, James  Mwaniki  on Friday ordered that the report be tabled before the court on July 16 before he makes a ruling in which the students – Clinton  Seke, Josphat Mbwika, Josphat Muia, Kyalo  Mulonzi, Kelvin Maingi, Timothy  Kinama and Masoud  Mohammed  have denied setting ablaze a school dormitory thereby destroying property valued at Sh. 5 million.

According  to  the prosecution, the students committed the offense on July 28, 2016 at around 5.45 am.

In  their  defense, the accused told the court that they woke up at 4.30 am and proceeded for morning preps and could not tell who burned the  dormitory.

The  prosecution however, established that the students had contributed money aimed at purchasing petrol and one of the accused Kyalo Mulonzi, a day scholar, kept the money to buy the fuel that was used in burning the dormitory.
