Escapee suspect re-arrested in Kakamega

A  notorious criminal  who escaped from Langas Police Station under unclear circumstances two weeks ago has been rearrested.

The  26-year old suspect  who was being held in connection with various criminal offences was arrested in Shinyalu of Kakamega County following a tip-off from members of the public.

Humphrey Shilisia  who is linked to rape and robbery with violence in various estates in Eldoret town and its environs was handed over to Eldoret Police after being smoked out from his hideout.

The  Uasin Gishu County Police Commander (CPC), Johnstone Ipara  said after receiving information from the public that the suspect was hiding in one of his relatives’ home in Shinyalu, police from Eldoret engaged their counterparts from Kakamega County to ensure the suspect was nabbed.

“We managed to re-arrest him after being in hiding for two weeks following his dramatic escape from Langas police station in Uasin Gishu County,” said Ipara.

The  CPC  said the suspect  will be arraigned in court to face charges in connection with the crimes he is reported to have committed.

He added that the suspect whom he described as dangerous was being detained at the Central police station pending his arraignment in court to face various criminal charges among them robbery with violence and rape

A police officer attached to Langas police station was arrested following the escape of the culprit under his watch on suspicion that the escape was an inside job.

His escape sparked angry protests from hundreds of Kapseret residents as they demanded the arrest and prosecution of the police officer who was on duty during the dramatic escape.
