Family in Busia appeals for financial help over sick child

A needy family in Busia County is appealing for financial aid to enable it meet medical costs for their six month-old son who has not excreted for the last four months.

Speaking to the press on Friday the infant’s parents, Paul Onyango and Catherine Akinyi, who hail from Sikoma village in Butula Sub County said they are unable to raise a medical bill of Sh. 500,000 required for correctional surgery at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Akinyi recounted that, the last six months have been difficult for the family as their son only managed to pass out stool for about two months with the aid of drugs.

“We noticed there is a complication immediately after birth, thus took him to Busia County Referral Hospital where medics recommended some drugs. This worked for a short while,” she said.

Akinyi said its then that they were referred to Eldoret for further checkup but due to financial constraints, they have been forced to stay at home with the sick child.

Onyango added that they have suffered sleepless nights ever since the drugs ran out, due to the unbearable pain their child goes through.

He expressed fear that they might lose him if the condition is not treated urgently. The family is now appealing to the government and well-wishers to assist.
