Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has launched digital health devices for health care workers in Kakamega County.
Speaking at the launch, held at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega town, Duale said the devices are part of the Taifa Care digitization strategy to enhance service delivery under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
150 digital devices were delivered, with more expected, with the aim of improving transparency and accountability in healthcare services.
Duale, who was accompanied by Governor Ferenades Barasa and other senior government officials, said the gadgets will be used in storing data of patients.
The devices will be used by healthcare workers in health facilities.
The devices contain sim cards and have the internet paid for ten years by the government to access system data.
The devices also have a new system of uploading a document known as “Hospital Knowledge Information System,’’ which has been integrated for treating patients and for making SHA claims.
The gadgets are aimed for ensuring efficiency of clinical workflow and making sure the patient gets the right treatment.
It will also help improve revenue and help to engage with the community on public health impact as the health officers will have data in the system about the patient.
Barasa said the county has launched a vigorous recruitment drive for SHA, noting that the county has only registered 800,000 people against the projected target of one million people.
“We want to ensure all the remaining one million people are captured in order to access health services,” he added.
