The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party national Chairperson Gladys Wanga has expressed optimism that her party and the UDA party will sweep majority seats in the upcoming by-elections.
Wanga dared the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and the Wiper party for a political duel saying that as broad based government, they were sure of vanquishing the opposition.
A total of 24 pending by-elections are scheduled for November 27.
They include the Baringo Senate seat and the Banisa, Magarini, Kasipul, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja parliamentary seats.
Wanga said she was confident that ODM would win in seats in its strongholds.
The party will also engage UDA in negotiations in fronting candidates in other regions, where the ruling party has more support.
“The broad-based team is ready to claim 100 per cent of the vacant seats,” she said.
The governor also expressed optimism that compensation of victims of police brutality would be successful, adding that families that lost their loved ones, or those who were injured should be paid.
“Compensation of victims of police brutality was one of the agendas in the MoU, we had with Kenya Kwanza administration and it must be fulfilled,” she said.
Wanga told those opposed to the process to keep off to enable to the initiative proceed smoothly.
The governor spoke at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay Town during a funds drive in aid of the completion of Ida Odinga Library and Resource centre at Ogande girls.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Ida Odinga, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, Education CS Julius Ogamba and other leaders attended the event.
Mohamed railed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for opposing progressive development plans that President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga have initiated.
“He was the man who propagated tribalism, when he was in office,” the Suna East MP said.
The leaders present drummed up support for the broad based government saying it had enabled peace to prevail in the country.
Mohamed said the regions, which were previously sidelined, were now getting development projects.
On his part, Kingi defended the working relationship between UDA party and the ODM party.
He said the two parties had similar manifestos and the two party leaders had the same agenda for the country.
“Raila chose to work with the President to ensure the country remains stable. The former Prime Minister’s contribution means a lot for the country,” added Kingi.
