The government has created more administrative units in Marsabit County to ease service delivery to the residents.
Marsabit County Commissioner (CC) Paul Rotich told KNA that four new sub-counties, three locations and six sub-locations have been formed so as to take services closer to the people and accelerate development.
Mr Rotich said the government which gazetted Dukana and Turbi sub-counties in North Horr constituency recently has curved out Uran and Golbo sub-counties in Moyale constituency.
Other newly created sub-counties are Sagante and Korr in Saku and Laisamis constituencies respectively.
He said three locations and six sub-locations have also been created to make the new Korr sub-county fully operational.
The CC who is also the chairman of the county security and intelligence committee added that placement and recruitment of officers to man the units will be conducted soon.
Mr Rotich said security and safety of locals was the major point of consideration regarding the move and urged national government administrative officers to ensure that the nyumba kumi structures were active in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Residents of the benefiting areas welcomed the gesture saying it was going to save them the agony of travelling long distances in search of government services.
Marsabit women development and advocacy organisation (Mwado) chairperson Nuria Gollo said it was expected that with the creation of the new offices issues affecting children and gender based violence would be handled with more efficiency.
She pointed out that the residents have to travel long distances whenever in need of government services like registration of birth certificates and national identity cards.
“The population has grown over time in these areas making it necessary for government action,” she said.
It is expected that once operationalised the administrative units will significantly reduce the cost of accessing government services in terms of time and money.
The headquarters of the sub-counties and locations are anticipated to attract the sprouting of urban centres hence investment and creation of jobs and wealth.
