More than 105 households in Imanyika Sub-location, Marama West Ward in Butere Sub-County are set to benefit from the ongoing Last Mile Connectivity Programme aimed at expanding electricity access in rural areas.
The project is being implemented by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) as part of the government’s broader plan to ensure more Kenyans access affordable and reliable electricity.
Speaking during the metering exercise yesterday, area Member of Parliament Tindi Mwale said the programme is expected to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of residents by increasing electricity connectivity in the region.
Mwale noted that electricity access plays a key role in transforming rural communities by supporting small businesses, improving security and creating a better learning environment for school-going children.
“The Last Mile Connectivity Programme is intended to ensure more households, especially in rural areas, benefit from affordable electricity and improved living standards,” said Mwale.
He added that electricity connectivity remains a major driver of development because it opens up opportunities for income generation and enhances service delivery in local communities.
Residents who participated in the metering exercise welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that electricity access would reduce reliance on kerosene and other expensive energy sources.
The ongoing exercise forms part of government efforts to expand electricity coverage in villages across Butere Constituency and other parts of the country under the Last Mile Connectivity Programme.
