The Inspector General (IG) of National Police Service (NPS), Hilary Mutyambai has assured Kenyans that the war against illicit drugs such as heroine, bhang and other narcotic substances was still on and cautioned against some police officers who team up with drug peddlers and barons to undermine the war.
Speaking to the press at Hola Police Headquarters on his familiarization tour in Tana River County on Thursday, Mutyambai said the war against narcotics would not be stopped because many youth in the country, especially in the Coast region, have been ruined by illicit drugs.
The IG said though many rehabilitation centres have been established to assist the youths who are addicted to drug abuse, “our challenge is, more and more youth are falling into the trap of drugs hence, need for collective efforts among all stakeholders in the war to eradicate the illicit drugs in the country,” he added.
Addressing police officers at Hola City hall, the police boss said he was collecting views from the officers on ground on their field challenges for intervention.
He was accompanied by the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji and other senior police officers.
